Creatine, water weight and bloating

Creatine can increase water stored in muscle. That initial scale change is not the same as gaining body fat.

Will the scale go up?

Maybe. Some people notice a small increase in body weight after starting creatine; others notice very little.

What about stomach upset?

Larger doses can bother some people. Smaller divided doses or skipping a loading phase can be easier to tolerate.

Keep the big picture in mind

Creatine supports training; it does not replace a sensible programme, enough protein, calories and sleep.

Water in muscle is not body fat

Creatine can increase water associated with muscle creatine storage, particularly when starting or loading. That can change scale weight without representing an increase in fat mass.

When to get individual advice
